From the time he decided to become a physician at the age of 12, orthopedic surgeon Thomas T. Haider, M.D., planned to use his medical skills to help people in his home country of Afghanistan. Political turmoil ultimately prevented him from returning home after completing his education in the United States, but this twist of fate has meant improved lives on both sides of the Atlantic.
In the United States, Dr. Haider established the Children's Spine Foundation in 1994 to provide free spinal care for children without health insurance and was the driving force behind the creation of the American Board of Spine Surgery.
In 2001 he received the national AMA "Pride in the Profession Award." Dr. Haider is also a recipient of the Chancellor's Medal of honor and other high accolades in medicine and public service. The Doctor has developed and patented a pedicel screw for back-fusion surgery; he donated all of the royalties to the University of California, Riverside. The UCR/UCLA program in BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES bears his name and the endowed chair is named in honor of his wife, Salma Haider. There are also the Jason and Monica Haider (his children) endowed scholarships and fellowships.
Dr. Dennis E. Cramer, D.O. (return to top)
Dr. Cramer is currently a physician at the Haider Spine Center. He earned his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. Dr. Cramer completed a neurosurgery residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and a subspecialty fellowship in Complex Spine at University of Cincinnati-Mayfield Clinic and Spine Institute. Dr. Cramer is Board Certified in Neurological Surgery by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery.
Dr. Cramer's fellowship research project was selected for the international American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Mayfield Clinic Science Award of 2008, presented in Orlando, FL; he became the first osteopathic surgeon to receive the award.
Dr. Rebecca J. Patchin (return to top)
Dr. Patchin currently a physician and surgeon at the Riverside Community Hospital, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and the Riverside County Regional Medical Center. She is also Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University.
Dr. Patchin was a recipient of the Sandoz Award for outstanding academic achievement and of the Glaxo Achievement Award. She recieved her M.D. at Loma Linda University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kim currently serves as Medical Director of Mission Pain Management which is a clinic that focuses on chronic pain conditions. He also serves as clinical staff in the Orthopedic Department at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Kim remains active in the Tattoo Removal Program at Loma Linda University, a program in which physicians volunteer their time to remove tattoos for free for individuals who have tattoos that prevent them from getting jobs or making advances in their careers.

Dr. Touraj Shafai received his education and training from Tehran University in Tehran, Iran. He then went on to receive a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Shafai has been a pediatrician in Riverside for 30 years. He is Chairman for continuing medical education at Parkview Community Hospital. He is also a Chairman on the pediatric Asthma Task Force at Parkview Community Hospital. He serves as a Chairman of the Maternal and Child Development at Riverside Community Hospital as well as being on the Executive Board of the Children's Spine Foundation and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Riverside County Children and Families Commission.
Dr. Shafai is a member of the California Medical Association, Riverside County Medical Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Mr. Daniel C. Lopez (return to top)
Dr. Lopez is currently a Staff Physician Assistant at U.S. Health Works Medical Group in Riverside, California. He specializes in occupational medicine, orthopedic medicine and urgent care medicine.
Dr. Lopez has strong experience in management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries in both the industrial and non industrial settings.
